About Us
The Grounds Guys of South Surrey provides dependable commercial grounds maintenance, seasonal services, and site care for institutional and commercial properties throughout the Lower Mainland. We are continuing to strengthen our arboriculture capabilities to support tree health, site standards, and safe, consistent field practices.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an ISA Certified Arborist (in good standing) to work with our team in a flexible, consulting-style role. In this position, you’ll provide arboriculture oversight, technical guidance, and occasional site support to help ensure quality workmanship and best practices across tree-related services.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide arboriculture oversight and professional guidance related to tree care activities and field operations.
- Advise crews on:
- effective watering methods and root-zone best practices,
- recognizing tree health indicators and early signs of stress,
- basic pruning standards where applicable to the scope of work.
- Conduct periodic site visits or inspections and provide clear written direction to the operations team.
- Assist with simple, consistent documentation, including photos, observations, and recommended actions.
- Support risk awareness and practical safety considerations (public safety, access, site controls) in alignment with BC workplace safety expectations for training, orientation, and supervision.
- Be available on an as-needed basis to respond to technical questions from management and field staff.
Required Qualifications
- ISA Certified Arborist credential (active and in good standing).
- Minimum of 3 years of arboriculture experience (typical baseline for ISA certification).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to coach crews and provide clear written notes.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to attend local sites as required.
Preferred Assets
- TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification).
- Experience working in municipal, school, or institutional environments.
- Familiarity with common Lower Mainland tree species and site constraints.
- Ability to produce concise arborist notes or recommendations (not formal reports).
Time Commitment & Schedule
- Flexible consulting hours, with increased needs typically between May and September.
- Combination of remote support and occasional on-site visits in Surrey / South Surrey.
- Can be structured as recurring monthly hours with additional time as required.
